Cuban Municipalities in Exile
Founded in 1960’s to promote success and integration of Cuban’s from each municipality into Miami.
With the goal of welcoming new Cubans to the Miami area, while ensuring their success and acclimation to the city, the Cuban Municipalities in Exile was founded throughout Miami in the 1960’s. Each group, which represents a municipality on the island, works toward welcoming new Cubans and helping them establish a new life in Miami, while simultaneously promoting democracy in Cuba.
Between the 1960’s and 1980’s, the groups were legally recognized, and Boards of Directors were established in order to facilitate necessary events and promotions within each group. Each group, or “Municipio,” holds elections within the group on a yearly basis, while all groups come together frequently at events and meetings to celebrate and promote the island.
